Introducing our new head coach..Coach Spoon

Janet and I are so excited to share some information with you about our new Waves head coach, Coach Spoon!  Coach Spoon is in his 7th year as head coach at Oak Ridge High School.  During those years he has taken swimmers and divers to Austin for 5 state meets.  Each year ORHS has improved in district, region and state finishes.

Prior to being head coach at Oak Ridge, he was an assistant coach at The Woodlands High School for 6 years.  Under the mentoring of Coach Kent Kirchner, he was able to develop a knowledge and understanding to help swimmers with the mechanics of swimming and develop and improve athletes.

He has been a summer league coach for the Oak Ridge Otters and for Atascosita Forest and enjoys working with and developing swimmers ages 5 and up!

Coach Spoon is Texas Ironman finisher, as well as a variety of sprint, Olympic, and half-ironman triathalons.  He has also completed 13 marathons in the Woodlands and Houston.

Coach Spoons Philosophy:  Athletes need guidance, motivation, and someone who will recognize their abilities and push them to perform "their best".  Motivation for one may look completely different for another.  The most important factor is rapport - the relationship between swimmers and coaches is key!

We are so excited to have Coach Spoon on board and look forward to our meet and greet with him on April 25th!
